Good Friday Tenebrae Service
The Day: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter commemorate the central events of the Christian Church. Good Friday is the solemn celebration of the Lord’s suffering and death on the cross. Our remembrance of Jesus’ death, while solemn, is not a message of gloom, but a service of adoration of the Son of God as he gives up his life. We gather here today to celebrate the sacrifice of the cross. So we remember his passion, but do so with a triumphant note—for we know in his resurrection, Christ has conquered sin, death, and the devil.
Maundy Thursday
The Day: Just as Ash Wednesday begins Lent so Maundy Thursday marks the end of Lent proper and the beginning of the Three Holy Days of Christendom (the Triduum). The theme of the celebration is the Lord’s new command (mandatus, Latin, became Maundy in Old English) to his disciples of all time to love each other as he has loved. The institution of the Lord’s Supper sets forth the depth of Jesus’ love and gives power to the church to live out his command. As with Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday occupies a unique place in the church calendar.
Easter Vigil with Holy Communion
This ancient service begins around a new fire kindled in the garden, and continues with a candlelit processional into the darkened church. We remember our Baptism, our Savior God, and his death. The second half of the service bursts forth in Easter joy as we begin the celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord. Easter Holy Communion is served.
The Training of Pastors - Seminar
Rev. Prof. James P Tiefel, Dean of Chapel and Professor at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary
On Sunday, March 14, we are pleased to have Rev. Prof. James Tiefel as our guest
for a seminar on training pastors at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary.
Rev. Tiefel is a professor of Homiletics and Worship at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary
in Meguon, Wisconsin. This is the seminary of the WELS, our national church body,
and is the site for the training of all our future pastors.
Everyone is welcome to join us in Room 4 on Sunday at 9:15 for this informative presentation.
Lent Midweek Dinner & Congregational Canvass
For 40 days, we fix our eyes on Jesus as we see him suffering for our sins.
The time of Lent reminds us that to know Christ and the power of his resurrection,
we must also know the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings. As disciples of the
Lord Jesus, we are called to struggle against everything that leads us away from
the love of God and our neighbor.
Join us at church this Wednesday, starting at 6:00 pm.
We'll meet for a meal and enjoy some Christian fellowship.
We’ll disperse around 6:30 pm for a congregational canvass and go hang
Examination of Catechism Students
We will have our Examination of our 8th grade Catechism students in the sanctuary beginning at 9.15am. These students will answer 100 questions about the truths of the Bible, illustrating what they have learned over these past two years in Catechism class.
We'd invite everyone to come and watch these students share their faith with us in this special way. Copies of the questions will be made available to the audience, so that you could check up on your own knowledge of Scripture.
We'll begin a special worship service at 10.30am that celebrates the Confirmation of these students.
