“Let your light shine among men, that they may see you good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
With those words, Christ encouraged his people to be ready to give testimony to their faith with deeds of love for their neighbor. On Sunday, July 11, 2010, the members of Faith shined the light of Christ into their community.
The Faith Lutheran Teen Group sponsored a Car Wash Benefit for the Newnan Community Welcome House, an organization that cares for battered women and children. Key drivers for the event were Angela and David Higgs, along with Vicar Schleis.
Local businesses made donations of all the food, bounce house, printing, drinks and materials for the car wash. Faith Lutheran provided all the labor. Teens, the youth group, and many parents spent a few hours washing cars for free will donations. Other members helped serve hot dogs, drinks and desserts for lunch. The donation of food, materials, and time meant that every penny raised went directly to the Welcome House.
The benefit gathered $1100 in cash and provided lots of extra dry good food for the Welcome House to feed to its residents. What a great turnout we had!
The hard work and willingness to serve our neighbor was blessed, and the Welcome House will be able to use those monies raised to continue to care for the oppressed in our community.
Many thanks to everyone involved in this great community service event! You were salt and light in a world that desperately needs both.
