This past Saturday, December 3rd, the Faith Lutheran Teen Group met to clean up our portion of Highway 34 between Fischer Road and Shoals Creeks Road. Nine people showed up to help and everyone put in a good day's work.
The Teen Group met at church before getting started to plan a strategy, but mostly to get donuts and cookies before heading out to clean. We split up into two teams and cleaned up all the cigarette butts and other garbage we could find - even probably some things that are biodegradable. We picked through the sides of the highway with nearly the precision of a fine-toothed comb before bagging all our trash and leaving it at the corner of Highway 34 and Fischer Road to be picked up by the county. If you're driving by there and see a pile of orange bags sitting on the southwest corner of the intersection, you can take pride in a job well done by your congregation's teen group.
We worked hard and got a lot done; it was a good day. And for all of you who are sorry you missed out - don't worry, you'll get another chance in spring. Keep your eyes peeled for an announcement so you can get it on your calendars.
